May's Day
by
Sarah Ruggieri
There once was a dino named May.
It was her 9th birthday today!
She got up from bed,
put her favorite hat on her head,
and hoped for presents without a delay!
May ga-lunked down the steps with a flare.
And thought, "Turning nine is so very rare!"
But when she got to the kitchen,
she knew something was missin',
when no cake or gifts greeted her there.
At school no one said a word.
Perhaps they just hadn't heard?
Birthday fun this is NOT,
everyone had forgot!
May felt like a big dino nerd.
Walking home tears fell from her eyes.
She felt silly, unwanted, unwise.
But when she opened the door,
her jaw dropped to the floor,
as everyone she knew yelled, "SURPRISE!"
